There are currently no tertiary degrees in science journalism offered in Australia.
- The Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science offers a one-week intensive short-course on Science In The Media.
- The University of Queensland offers a combined Bachelor of Science/Journalism
- The University of Canberra offers a combined Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Communications in Journalism
- Edith Cowan University’s Bachelor of Media and Communications Journalism Major includes units on health and science journalism.

- Johns Hopkins University’s Master of Arts in Science Writing is a “flexible, part-time program of online classes and face-to-face residencies”.
- Boston University’s Science and Medical Journalism program “offers an intense curriculum leading to a Master of Science degree”.
- Knight Science Journalism program at MIT runs a nine-month fellowship program, that is offered to just 10 science journalists each year (and here’s a great article about applying for a KSJ Fellowship).
- The Columbia Journalism School offers an M.A. in Science.
- MIT offers a Graduate Program in Science Writing; a one-year master’s degree program
- NYU Journalism offers a Graduate Program in Science, Health and Environment Reporting.
- The University of California, Santa Cruz runs a one-year graduate science writing program for individuals with a degree in science and experience in research
- The University of Georgia’s Grady College offers a Graduate Program in Health and Medical Journalism
- The University of Texas offers a Master’s Degree in Science and Technology Journalism
- The University of Arizona’s School of Journalism offers classes in environment journalism and science journalism.

- Scijourno.com.au provides a free online self-administered course on the basics of science journalism.
- The World Federation of Science Journalists provides a free, online, self-administered course on science journalism
- Johns Hopkins University’s Graduate Certificate in Science Writing is a flexible, part-time program of online classes, while their Master of Arts in Science Writing is a part-time program of online classes and face-to-face residencies.
- The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas offers a series of free Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on journalism, covering topics such as investigative journalism, data visualisation, digital journalism. The courses last 4-6 weeks and can be taken at any time during that period.
- The European Journalism Centre’s Learno.net offers a range of online video courses for journalists, which includes ones on data journalism and data visualisation.
- The Royal Statistical Society offers two free online self-administered courses on Statistics for Journalists and Science for Journalists.
- Climate Tracker is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to improve the coverage of climate-related issues by training the next generation of climate journalists. Their website features a range of toolkits and handbooks on writing about climate change, as well as fellowships to enable journalists to attend climate change talks.
- While not specifically science-related, the City University of New York’s Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism has some free online journalism workshops – in particular, there’s one on investigative journalism with the Washington Post’s David Fahrenthold.
- The New York Times has opened up its training materials on data journalism for public access.
